Enter the wee gymnast
I’ve documented The Boy’s brief attempt at pursuing gymnastics on here before and it should come as no surprise (for those of you paying attention, at least) that The Girl has also decided to give tumbling a try.
She started going to gymnastics lessons once a week back in January. They’re a bit pricier than I would like, but she seems to really enjoy them and it looks like she’s actually developing some skill. I’m not saying she’s going to compete in the 2028 Olympics or anything, but she’s paying attention and learning what they’re teaching her. At this point, any constructive harnessing of her limitless crazy energy is greatly appreciated.
Anyhoo, her semester of lessons culminated in a “Mini-Olympics” on Saturday. Really, each kid just did three repetitions of the exact same things we’ve been watching them do each week at practice, but hey – they all seemed to be excited about it. The Girl got a trophy and a shirt, plus the gymnastics place got to squeeze another $35 out of us. Woot.
I’ll admit it was pretty entertaining while The Girl was doing her thing, but it got boring quickly once I realized there was still another 90 minutes of kids prancing around to sit through. Just when we made it through all of the toddlers and I thought we were done, they brought out some pre-teen dancers for another 20 minutes of awkward gyrating. Towards the end, The Boy and I were keeping ourselves awake by photographing the interiors of each other’s noses. (Don’t worry, I’m not going to show them to you.)
To save you the indignity of having to photograph your child’s sinuses, I’ve condensed the whole thing down into a five-minute highlight reel of The Girl’s performance:

she caught those rings good.
So cute! Wish I could have been there. I make sure and see her in the Olymmpics though.
That was the sweetest, most adorable thing I’ve ever seen!!! One of my favorite things in the world is to watch videos of Peyton and Eli Manning playing football when they were really young tikes. The media will pay you a lot of $$ for this footage when she IS in the olympics one day. Of course….probably won’t ever recoop the cost of all those lessons….but it’s still good video!
