Fortune cookie wisdom
These past couple of weeks since Christmas have been unusually busy and tiring for a variety of reasons. There’s just been a ton of stuff going on at work and home for both The Wife and me.
I don’t really have the energy or inclination to get into the details, but the past few weeks have taught/reinforced some important life lessons:
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.- If something is important, make the time for it.
- Look before you leap.
- Tell your family how much you love them every day.
- A cup full of liquid isn’t the best place to store your electronic devices.
- Children speak the truth loudly and often at socially awkward times.
- Do what you think is best, not what others believe you should think is best.
- When a llama starts to work up a spitwad, running is a good idea.
- Be thankful for what you have and share with those who don’t.
- In the end, it all works out one way or another.
And your lucky lotto numbers are 1-4-13-15-19-27.
Fries at the bottom of the bag
I haven’t done this in a while, so they’ve kind of piled up:
- I think the real question is why we keep lowering the bar for what constitutes a celebrity.
- Wow, Boise State offers degrees I’ve never seen anywhere else.
- Way to show that state pride, Missouri!
- Good to see that the census bureau doesn’t just see us all as worker-meat-bags.
- Sometimes you just don’t care enough to send the very best.
- Buy your next eight-legged friend at Petco, because only they understand the needs of tarantulas and other snakes.
- I didn’t realize that retirement had been so rough on Jeff Bagwell.
- Congratulations to our local CBS affiliate, which managed to combine grammatical errors and a total lack of useful information in one of their stories on their iPhone app.
- Headline fail, part one: Does anyone at our local TV station proofread anything?
- Headline fail, part two: ESPN is too cool for question marks.
- Headline fail, part three: Looks like USA Today has hired one of the Geico cavemen to work the copy desk.
- Headline fail, part four: ESPN seems to be spitting out useless headlines in some of their RSS feeds that are being snatched by Google.
- CNN video: 60 percent of the time it works, every time.
- Uh, Google might want to work on the algorithm that matches up thumbnails with news articles…
- …and here’s three more examples to prove it.
