Thanks

As I noted earlier, eight days ago was the tenth anniversary of the collapse of the Aggie Bonfire. I think it’s equally important to note today’s tenth anniversary – that of the 1999 Aggie-Longhorn football game.

In many ways, it marked the beginning of the healing process for those of us on campus at the time. It wasn’t a return to normalcy; nothing about that game, that day or the week which preceded it was even remotely close to normal, but it was the beginning of the long road towards something that resembled it.

After reading the numerous accounts of others surrounding the tragedy over the past week, I was reminded of the enormous outpouring of support and assistance that occurred after Bonfire fell – not only in our local community, but also in Austin. I remember seeing Longhorns on the news standing in line to donate blood, joining us in silent respect at the candlelight vigil that preceded yell practice and, of course, the touching tribute by the Texas band during halftime.

As I’m reminded of all of this today, I just wanted to take a moment and thank our friends in Austin for their compassion, support and assistance during that difficult time. Although we may be heated rivals both on and off the field, it’s comforting to know that we’ll still all be there for each other should the need arise.

Fries at the bottom of the bag

  • Yesterday, the kids’ schools were closed but the university was open, so I got to burn a vacation day playing Mr. Mom. It was a big day for The Girl – she slammed down ice cream, conquered the big kid slide at the mall and figured out how to kick her brother’s ass.
  • Is it just me or is the math not adding up in this statement?
  • Guess we won’t be having rolls for dinner tonight.
  • We’re headed down to The Swamp for Thanksgiving. If you live in the bustling Brazosport metroplex, we apologize in advance for all the damage we’ll no doubt cause.

wonderful tribute, in times of tragedy it is wonderful to see how people really do pull together – I’ve seen it with 9/11, Ike, Virginia Tech and countless other events

We all have a lot to be thankful for, and hopefully people will take today to think about that and not just push through to shopping tomorrow…

I am truly thankful this year for a lot of things I took for granted last year.

    Amen.

BTW – I love the visual of your phrase “Fries at the bottom of the bag.” :p
