The Linkage for September 20th
Here’s a quick look at what I was reading online from Sep. 5th to Sep. 20th:
It’s not just fast food… it’s two years of coughing, vomiting and pain
After suffering for two years from a variety of complaints, doctors reached into one of his lungs and pulled out the cause of it all – a piece of a plastic spoon from Wendy’s. This begs three questions: 1) How fast do you have to be chowing down to not notice a hunk of plastic in your food? 2) At what point in the digestive process does food enter the lungs? I missed that in school. 3) How long will it take this guy to file a massive lawsuit against Wendy’s?

The efforts to curtail energy usage in home appliances and large electronics are being negated by the proliferation of small tech gadgets in American homes – some of which hog more energy than a refrigerator.

When fair and balanced doesn’t work, just lie
Fox News took out a full page ad in the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and New York Post claiming that ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC and CNN failed to cover the rallies in Washington D.C. on September 12. They just missed one small detail: all those other networks were actually there. Nice.

Burglar arrested after leaving his Facebook page on victim’s computer
We’ve all heard about burglars scouting out potential victims on Facebook, but now it appears that Facebook has lead to the arrest of one. Well, actually the stupidity of a burglar on Facebook was what lead to the arrest, but it counts.

It’s crunch time for Russia’s latest Mars probe
Less than two months before the scheduled launch of Russia’s flagship planetary spacecraft, officials are set to recommend a delay until 2011. Feeling better about the Russians providing our only means of getting to the ISS once we shut down the shuttle program next year?
To their credit though, they should get some mad props for naming the probe “Phobos-Grunt” (which is actually a rough Anglicization of the real Russian name “Phobos Soil”).

Squirrels and kittens battle for the future of the galaxy
What happens when you mix Star Wars with Cute Overload? Animals with lightsabers, where Sith cats, Jedi dogs, and the flying squirrel duke it out in a more civilized fashion.

How the Beatles rocked the Eastern Bloc
While the Beatles were at the height of their success in the West, back in the USSR they were a forbidden influence. But that did not stop them from being heard.
