Tailgating extends the grilling season a little bit around here, but most stores are desperately trying to get rid of summer crap so they can have room for all the Halloween crap they've got. I don't understand why your university is open that day. I looked online and you get an extra day at Spring break that I don't get if that makes you feel any better :) still sucks though, and the day care sounds like it was the only place closed....
