I spent many a Tuesday evening in that park sailing in the Old River…and a few summers life-guarding at the pool. I miss that rootbeer stand.
As a child, I remember being very frustrated by the completely arbitrary hours that root beer stand kept. Some summers, it’d be open every Saturday. Other years, it’d only be open on three random (and unannounced) days some time in the summer.
I took all of my swimming lessons at that pool. I hated it when folks would throw fish from the river in there and we’d have to get them out before lessons could start. That’s a way to motivate a kid to get in the pool – make him haul out dead fish.
Great photos! We talked about you on our Tell Me Thursday Podcast today! Hope to hear more about it!
Beautiful photos! I love the red and white contrasting the gorgeous blue sky.
Hi! I found you over on the TMT meme. That is a rather large boat out of the water. It’s amazing how things look so small in the water and then you pull them out and they are huge like that one. It looks like your boy had a great time playing around it.
Where were yall?
This boat is located in Freeport, TX, about 45 minutes south of Houston in a municipal park right by the old Brazos River. It apparently used to be an actual shrimping boat, but for most of my lifetime it’s been sitting there as a monument, collecting a new layer of paint every couple of years.
