Super weekend
This weekend was pretty freaking fantastic, mostly due to the fact that for the first time in a very long time, none of us were sick. It’s amazing how much better sitting around doing nothing can be when no one’s feverish, cranky or otherwise fussy.
It turns out The Girl had good reason to be fussy last week, as it appears that she seemed to be suffering from a pair of ear infections, the stupid cold that’s going around town, and the emergence of several new teeth all at the same time. The Wife and I are surprised at how many teeth she seems to be sprouting all at once. I’m somewhat afraid she’ll end up having multiple rows of teeth like a shark.
Shark-like chompers aside, she’s definitely all good now. In fact, she was in a pretty silly mood all weekend long. That’s a far cry and a welcome change from last weekend when her head was spinning and all that green pea soup was flying everywhere.
Since everyone was feeling fine for once, we decided to keep it pretty low key this weekend. There was a lot of coloring (and some eating of crayons) and playing Nintendo. And some grocery shopping too. The Wife and I both get paid once a month, so we’re generally scraping by on gruel and hardtack by the end of the month. When we finally make it to store at the beginning of the month, we buy so much the sackers at the grocery store are convinced that we’re buying groceries for our family of twenty back at the commune or something.
January is always particularly rough in that respect – The Wife got her last paycheck the week before Christmas and all those holiday bills have started coming in. They say that retail sales were down last quarter, but I have to think The Wife and I helped soften the blow. All that holiday cheer and a certain little person’s first birthday weren’t cheap. Needless to say, it’s nice to have money flowing in again, even if most of it is going right back out.
Fun with a measuring cup
Since we’re all about safety around our house, we let The Girl up on the kitchen counter top and let her bang on stuff. Don’t worry, the stove was off.
Fries at the bottom of the bag
- Glad the Super Bowl turned out to be a decent game. It was looking pretty one-sided at halftime.
- The Boy had his first basketball game last week and has his second one tonight. More on that tomorrow.
- Starting basketball means shoe shopping. After searching our local mall, The Boy picked out a pair that only a Broncos fan like myself could love.
- The Girl loves bread. And The Dog would like some.
- We put out some new rugs in the kitchen, which meant that The Cat had to make sweet, sweet love to them.
- I got called for jury duty again. Maybe I’ll get lucky like last time and it will be canceled. I don’t really have the time to dispense justice.
- Peeled sweet potatoes remind me of Kryten from Red Dwarf.
- January is history, so here’s the link to the January photo gallery.
- I didn’t see my shadow when I emerged from hibernation this morning, but that just means that The Girl gets up too darn early.

I was surprised with how competitive the game turned out, but disappointed (again) by the commercials….and appalled at the ‘affair website’ commercial that aired…
I actually didn’t watch the game, and managed to call my mother with 30 seconds or something left, to which she answered the phone “YOU’RE NOT WATCHING THE GAME ARE YOU?!?!?!”
I don’t think Clinton and I would survived if we only got paid once a month.
It’s a wonder toy companies make as much money as they do. Pyrex and Similac should just start marketing their products as multi-purpose. Now THAT would make a great Super Bowl commercial. Certainly better than another stupid GoDaddy.com ad.
