One reel wonder

The beginning of the school year is almost here, which means getting ready for a group of new students and faculty at work. Just like last year, I was assigned to make a brief but memorable orientation video for our new faculty members.

I was really happy with what we did last year and was afraid that we wouldn’t be able to match it this time around. In fact, I really couldn’t think of any new direction could we go with the same material. But then I got stuck out on the couch watching TCM late one night a few weeks ago and inspiration struck.

I’m really happy with this year’s video. It features The Boy in his first leading role, as well as the daughter of one of my co-workers. As a bonus, my arms make a brief but action-packed camero appearance as well.

Tarnished gold

Oh China, things were going so well. Such a warm fuzzy feeling after that dazzling opening ceremony.

Then it came to light that some of those fantastic fireworks didn’t really exist at all. And then it came out that you substituted a lip-syncher in place of a seven-year old girl you deemed to be too ugly to take part in your showcase. You set up sham free speech zones and then arrested people who wanted to use them for their stated purpose. And despite whatever documentation you may have conjured up, no one in their right mind thinks any of your “women” gymnasts are above the age of twelve.

And that’s just six days in. There’s still eleven more to go. I can’t wait to see what else you can pull.
