Learning new things isn’t always fun
Did you know that a six-month old can get tonsillitis? Neither did I – until my six-month old came down with it.
That’s right. The Girl’s mystery fever from Thursday was diagnosed by her doctor as tonsillitis the next morning and our weekend was filled with crying, fussing, fever, sticky medicine and general sweaty restlessness.
Her temperature hovered between 100° and 104° for most of the weekend, but fortunately the baby ibuprofen kept her in good spirits most of the time. In between doses of medicine and some epic naps, she managed to work in some play time in the kitchen and around the living room. And of course, as always, there was time to harass The Dog.
Being sick didn’t stop The Girl from trying to grow up all at once either. She’s got a third tooth that looks like it’s going to pop through pretty soon and a new obsession – pulling herself up and standing. In fact, she’s so enthralled with standing on her own that she’s forgotten about crawling. Sometimes I wish she’d take a more relaxed approach to her personal development – I’m having a hard time keeping up on the babyproofing front.
I’m happy to report that The Girl is officially feeling better now and went back to daycare today without any problems. Unfortunately, this whole affair kind of messed up our sleep training regimine, but I guess we’ll have to work on getting that back on track this week before The Boy returns home.
Fries at the bottom of the bag
- The Boy, who is now on the back leg of his two weeks in the swamp, is apparently a pro at Wii Tennis. Or at least that’s what my parents tell me. They bought a Wii for themselves before he arrived, which is pretty funny when I stop to think about it.
- The Wife has suddenly gotten the urge to buy an iPod. We went and looked at some on Sunday, which means that the actual purchase is probably just mere days away. The Wife doesn’t exactly deliberate for long periods of time on things like this.
- I spent some of my time at home with the sick child watching a Russian film called The Italian. If you can stand a movie that’s a bit bleak and depressing on the surface, I highly recommend it. The story is compelling and ultimately uplifting, especially if you’re the parent of a small one.
- Imagine what this package would have looked like if it hadn’t been handled “with care”.

I really enjoy your posts!
Awww, I miss the days when you can plop them in a laundry basket and walk away, and they’ll still be in the laundry basket when you get back…unfortunately those days are numbered for you!
