Insert slow-motion roundhouse kick here
Well, after 2+ months and fourteen games, The Boy’s first season of organized tee ball came to an end this evening. He made a lot of progress over the season and I think he had a lot of fun as well.
Even though it’s starting to get unbearably hot around here, I was kind of sad to see the season end. But at least Chuck Norris was there to make the season finale a little more interesting.
That’s right – that Chuck Norris. As we’ve discussed before, he’s got a pair of kids who were in the same league as The Boy. And tonight was our night to face them.
He didn’t liberate any P.O.W. camps or deliver any slow-motion roundhouse kicks, but he did help out in the outfield and set the tee up for the batters on his team. It’s funny how all those parents who hadn’t brought a camera all season long somehow remembered to bring them tonight.
The Boy is only vaguely aware that Chuck Norris is a celebrity. He’s seen him selling gyms on television and we watched part of Braddock: Missing in Action III the other night. Tonight though, he seemed to be pretty unaware that Mr. Norris was even there. In fact, I’m certain he had no idea that Walker, Texas Ranger was helping coach the other team. That’s okay – when you’re five, you can only focus on one thing at a time.
And focus he did, managing to get TWO hits of off real live pitching. If you had told me at the beginning of the season that he was going to get a single hit, much less two in the same game, I wouldn’t have believed it. He also ran hard on the base paths, something that wasn’t always his strong suit earlier in the season.
The rest of the family was on hand to help out in their own special ways. The Girl cheered on her big brother while trying to stay cool. The Wife took pictures that made it look like the game was played on a mountainside. And Uncle Andrew showed up to watch his nephew play like a champ.
I’m really proud of the progress The Boy has made this season. When he started eight weeks ago, he looked like a baby out there with the big kids. Now he’s the quite the little ballplayer. I can’t wait for next season.
(I’m secretly hoping The Girl has a bit of tomboy in her. I’d much rather sweat through softball and soccer games than try to stay awake at dance recitals.)
Fries at the bottom of the bag
- We got a new coffee machine at work today. I don’t even like coffee, but I’m excited about it. Now I don’t have to go down two floors to get a cup of hot chocolate. And The Wife is extremely jealous because the coffee at her office isn’t nearly as swank.
- I’m all about nifty office supplies and gadgets, but I fail to see the need for an item I found underneath my desk today.
- All those nectar-lovin’ flying insects have discovered the blooms in the backyard. The Boy is now boycotting the backyard until they move on.
- The Girl has become quite adept at sitting up on her own. Well, most of the time.
- The Girl’s hair is starting to become a little thicker on the sides. Looks like we’ve got another little blondie on our hands.

Maybe they all just brought their cameras because they knew it was the last game? BWAHAHAHAHA
I also prefer indoors to bees. But maybe that’s just me and the Boy.
That coffee set up is KILLING ME. SO JEALOUS.
Hey,
A couple of my daughter’s classmates are on the team with Chuck’s kids. We are going to watch them play Friday. They showed me their team picture yesterday and it is pretty cool that Chuck Norris is in it. They are having their team party Saturday out at his ranch.
