Sleep, eat, poop. Repeat.

Ah, the halcyon days of infantdom – a time when your responsibilities are limited solely to doing whatever you want.

Hungry? Eat. Tired? Sleep. Full? Poop. None of the above? Cry or stare vacantly. Such are the days of The Girl’s life thus far.

Yo ho ho, a baby’s life for me

It's a rough life.So far, things are going swimmingly for The Girl. She had her first doctor’s appointment a few days ago and passed with flying colors. She even made up the weight she lost in the hospital and packed on a few more ounces for good measure.

Life at home is pretty good. Mostly she does the three activities referenced in today’s title, but she’s managed to mix in a walk or two and some play time too. The whole day-night thing is still kind of confusing, but she’s doing a better job of sleeping for longer stretches throughout the night (when she feels like it).

Two things she cannot do are read or play Nintendo, so The Boy doesn’t have a whole lot of use for her at this point. That’s fair. If I were five, I probably wouldn’t be too worked up about her either.

He is, however, a proud big brother. When he returned to school last week, we sent a pair of pictures of him  with his sister for show-and-tell. They were prominently displayed on the wall for all to see when I came to pick him up that afternoon and his teachers said “he was telling anyone who’d listen” about his new baby sister all day long.

The Dog was initially unsure about our new addition, but after quite a bit of sniffing, she decided that The Girl was okay. In fact, she’s become quite protective of The Girl – any time she stirs while sleeping, The Dog must investigate. When one of us burps The Girl after a feeding, The Dog watches us with a weary eye. And she really doesn’t like it when The Girl disappears from view.

Midnight Movie Club

Since The Girl and I are both night owls, we’ve been passing the time between bottles watching some late-night television. And we’ve come to the conclusion that most of it is crap.

Fortunately, we’ve rediscovered a friend that I had forgotten about – Turner Classic Movies. I generally like their selection of films and I particularly like their lack of commericals. Unfortunately, they’re so high on the channel list that I very rarely make it up there while channel surfing.

Anyway, we’ve been watching their late night schedule in spades over the past week or so. I can specifically remember watching Gone With the Wind, The Terminator, Awakenings, Rollerball (the original one), The Warriors and Three Days of the Condor.

Outside of TCM, the pickings have been pretty slim. Mostly reruns of Comedy Central shows and election coverage on CNN. I have a movie from Netflix sitting in its envelope waiting for me, but I always forget about it until I have a sleeping baby on me.

Wake me when it’s 2008

How did The Wife and I spend our rockin’ New Year’s Eve this year? We went to bed at 10:30.

When The Girl woke us up at 12:48 a.m., The Wife mumbled something about “Happy New Year” while I got up to fix a bottle. Good times.
