Disney World by numbers

As I wearily reported two nights ago, The Wife and The Boy made it back from their trip to Disney World. Now I have the pictures to prove it.

The Boy had a good time and got to do lots of exciting things, such as meeting Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto and even two of the four Little Einsteins. He also got to do his favorite thing in the entire world: look at lots of park maps.

It’s an 8×14 fold-out world after all

Let's see where we areAs you may or may not remember, The Boy has a serious thing for maps of all kinds (as evidenced by our trip to the San Antonio zoo). He really took a shine to the freebie maps they had for all the various individual parks at Disney World. In fact, he brought home multiple copies of each and they’ve been added to the rotation of bedtime stories.

If you’re asking yourself right now how a map qualifies as a bedtime story, you’ve obviously never met my son. We go through and read all 20-30 items in the map key and then find them on the map. It sounds tedious, but then again so is reading Miss Bindergarten Stays Home from Kindergarten for the 1,000,000th time.

By the time he landed in Houston, he had already memorized the number for each attaction on its respective map. The Boy didn’t see Spaceship Earth, he saw Epcot #1. He didn’t ride on the Dumbo ride, he enjoyed Magic Kingdom #18.

Supercalifragilisticexpiali… whatever

When not looking at maps, The Boy managed to find fun in other ways. He got a candy octopus from a lady at the Japanese pavilion (whom I find somewhat creepy), ate a Rice Krispie treat the size of St. Louis, ignored the most flamboyant barbershop quartet in North America and just had some general goofy fun.

The Wife, although nearly six months pregnant, purportedly had a good time too. But she theoretically has her own blog, so I’ll let her tell her own stories. (You may have to wait a while – she only blogs once every other month.)

Those of you who are interested can view all of The Wife’s photos from the trip by clicking here.

    sounds like he had fun.

teacups, I loved that ride and my poor parents also had to sit through lots of ‘its a small world’ when I went…

Hey, she’s busy building a small child! YOUR small child, no less. I blogged only sporatically during my pregnancy because in addition to the small human I was trying to make, I also aimed to create a Kristine shaped indention on our bed! I’m in awe of her even walking around being awake.

I’m glad he had a good time. When we went for our honeymoon I vowed not to take a child there until they could enjoy it, I saw entirely too many infants there. “Here Mom, you hold the baby while I ride alone and then I’ll hold the baby while you ride alone, won’t that be fun!?”
