Cribbin’ it
Today was far more productive than yesterday, but that’s not saying a whole lot. After yesterday, merely rolling out of bed and taking a shower seemed like a major achievement.
My parents came into town today to help my brother stock his new apartment, so we made the trip to Sam’s and Target and bought enough supplies for a small army. In the evening, I put together the crib in The Baby’s room during breaks in the football game on television.
One of the unadvertised benefits of fatherhood is the ability to put together pretty much anything. Over the past five years, I’ve managed to go from being a complete klutz with simple assembly jobs to a certified pro.
This evening, for example, I slapped together the crib in about five minutes without any setbacks or cursing. As The Wife will attest, the lack of cursing shows how far I’ve come.
After the crib was completed, The Cat had to come check it out. After several seconds of scrutiny, she pronounced it evil and vocalized her feelings on the subject. She was ignored and subsequently kicked out of The Baby’s room. The Dog slept through the whole drama.
Update from the Old People State
The Wife called in again around dinner time and reported that The Boy achieved his primary goal today – meeting Mickey Mouse. He sounded pretty excited about the encounter over the phone.
He also apparently really, really liked some Buzz Lightyear ride they have. From what I could gather from his excited talking over the phone, it involved shooting aliens and he scored 1400 points. The Wife said they had to go on it five or six times before they could get him to move onto something else.
What’s hot, sweaty, oddly-dressed and has hundreds of legs?
No, it’s not a pair of Siamese-twin millipedes wearing radiation suits - it’s the annual procession of faculty across campus for the fall academic convocation.
This year’s edition, held Friday afternoon, was as blisteringly hot as usual and I had to go snap a few pics for work. By the time we made it into the coliseum for the big speech, I was dripping with sweat. I can’t imagine how fun it was to make the trek decked out in full Harry Potter-esque academic regalia.

When my family went to Disney World in 2001, my parents were like The Boy!!! They had to ride it a hundred times! They are going back in October and are already talking about going on the ride.
