Sugar, spice and everything nice

Yesterday was the big day. Well, not THE big day. I suppose that’s still about four months away. But it was the other big day – the 20th week ultrasound.

It took a while for the ultrasound technician to zero in on the necessary hardware but we found out the information that we were looking for – it appears that we’ll be adding a little girl to our family somewhere around New Year’s Day.

The BabyThe Wife and I were both pleasantly surprised by the news, as we had both been pretty much expecting that fate would deal us another boy. We would have been happy with either gender of course, but I had been secretly rooting for a girl this time around. And the best part is that The Baby seems to be perfectly healthy and progressing normally. (check out ultrasounds here)

As the initial excitement began to wane, I realized that there’s a whole new host of issues that raising a daughter will entail. Now I can look forward to paying for even more clothes, makeup, dance lessons, prom dresses, and a wedding. People will eventually want to take my daughter out on dates. I do not like these people already. There’s a very good chance I’ll have to clear out some of my personal stuff to make room for Barbies, My Little Ponies and/or Hello Kitty items. What about Bratz? I hate Bratz. Plus there’s some growing-up stuff that I still don’t understand myself yet. Egads.

The Boy was not particularly thrilled with the news, as he had decided that he needed a little brother. I was able to placate him, though, with the assurance that it would be a boy “next time”.

Various updates

Sorry about the lack of regular posts. I’ve been trying to settle into my new job (which is going fantabulously, btw) and have been archiving all of our old family photos online like a man possessed. I guess I’m just trying to clean house before the next one gets here.

So, since last time:

  • The Boy has moved to a new school (more on this next time)
  • The Boy has started playing tee-ball
  • The Wife and I took a weekend trip to Austin and visited a cave and the capitol
  • One of The Boy’s great-grandmothers celebrated her 89th birthday
  • A very fancy spider has taken residence on our back porch
  • Some photos from 2000, 2001 and 2002 are now available for you to make fun of

    Congrats!

Tell her the Bratz have lead paint on them. I hate Bratz also, who had the bright idea to dress a child’s toy like a slut/whore? And where are the people who threw the fit about the disproportionate waist line on Barbie, where’s their fit about the Bratz heads?

The line for those boys who want to take her out on dates is this (from Bill Engvall) “I have no problem going BACK to prison.”

I’m sure the Wife has some My Little Ponies or Barbies at her parent’s house that you could use for the new baby. If those aren’t available, I’m sure I could find you some at my old house! I’m so glad you guys are having a girl! The Boy will come around, I’m sure, and be a big help to you when boys start coming around asking for dates!!!!!!! Tell the wife I said hi :-)
